The Pittsburgh Steelers saw some encouraging news from their first official practice report of the week on Wednesday, with three key injured starters finally able to return to training.

After missing the game on Monday night, Morgan Burnett, Marcus Gilbert and David DeCastro were all full participants at practice for the first time in several days, and their status will be scrutinized as the week progresses. If any of them can string consecutive days of training together, they’d stand a good chance of suiting up against the Baltimore Ravens.
Speaking to Teresa Varley of Steelers.com, DeCastro was doing his best to sound optimistic about the possibility of playing in Week 4, but he didn’t sound especially convincing.
“I hope so. It’s been tough not being out there. It’s tough. I try to be positive. It’s bittersweet. With a guy like B.J. Finney, to watch him come in and play the way he has, it’s great and it makes you feel better when the team is winning games. You want to be out there, but you have to be a team guy. I will try again this week. It’s feeling a lot better so that’s positive. I am feeling really good. I think I am turning the corner. The strength is coming back. I am going to try it out this week and see.”
While Gilbert seemed more confident he might play.
“It felt pretty good. I am taking it one day at a time. But this week I am optimistic. I want to see how things go day-by-day and hopefully no setbacks.”
Although there were four players sitting out on Wednesday, both Ben Roethlisberger and Ramon Foster were the beneficiaries of veteran rest-days. Mike Hilton’s absence was expected after he was forced from the field prematurely in Week 3 with an elbow injury, and his availability for Sunday night is clearly in doubt.
The inclusion of JuJu Smith-Schuster as a non-participant was the only surprise in the report, and it can only be hoped that his absence is temporary as he deals with an abdominal injury.
The Ravens’ injury report featured a number of notable names to start the week:
Ravens: DNP-CB Averett (hamstring), WR Brown (not injury related), CB Carr (knee), DT Henry (abdomen), QB Jackson (illness), OT Stanley (foot), LB Suggs (knee), S Weddle (not injury related); Limited-TE Hurst (foot), DB/LB Levine (hamstring), LB Mosley (knee), DT Pierce (foot)— Mike Prisuta (@DVEMike) September 26, 2018
