Podcast: Why the Steelers should avoid restructuring Ben Roethlisberger’s contract at all costs

In a brand new show titled ‘Yeah, I said it’, we talk about some burning topics surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Talk to anyone who follows the Pittsburgh Steelers, and has a general understanding of their salary cap situation heading into the 2019 season, and they will tell you the team has options to free up some more space.

Sure, Le’Veon Bell’s $14.5 million roll over will help, but the team could also take their biggest cap hit contract, owned by Ben Roethlisberger, and re-do the contract to free up even more space in 2019.

Sounds reasonable, right? After all, Roethlisberger is entering the final year of his contract, which is when the team usually negotiates new contracts with their players, and has shown he can still play at a high level.

But what if restructuring this contract could be the absolute worst decision the team could make?

This is where the newest BTSC podcast “Yeah, I Said It” comes in. Saying the Steelers shouldn’t re-do Ben’s contract won’t go over well, but sometimes things still need to be said. My co-host on ‘The Standard is the Standard’, Lance Williams, is the perfect man for the job, and delivers the goods in the debut show.
