The Behind The Steel Curtain survivor pool finished up its sixth week with a significant number of contestants correctly choosing the same team. While technically we started with 592 entries, I have one entry in each league as the commissioner so there were 587 different contestants. Hundreds have entered, but only one can go home with the autographed David DeCastro football. Entering Week 6, there were 130 contestants still alive.
The most common selection for Week 6 was the Baltimore Ravens defeating the Cincinnati Bengals which led or tied all six leagues as the choice for about one third of all the remaining entries. The Ravens fell behind quickly as the Bengals returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown, but answered with two first-quarter touchdowns and held on for a 6-point victory. Other popular correct choices were the Packers, Patriots, and Seahawks.
The biggest reason for teams to be eliminated came from the Houston Texans’ 31-24 upset over the Kansas City Chiefs. Another upset which knocked out several teams was the Atlanta Falcons falling to the Arizona Cardinals and the Dallas Cowboys being upset by the New York Jets. On a positive note, only three contestants failed to make picks in time this week, two of which were the only contestants eliminated from league 6.
After six weeks, 16.7% of contestants still remain mainly since 20.8% of those who entered Week 6 were eliminated. Since I am still alive in all six leagues, it means we have less than a hundred contestants remaining! If you are still in the contest, make sure you enter your pick early so you don’t get knocked out due to a lack of selection. In fact, go do it right now if you are still alive!
As the season moves forward, it does become slightly easier to know what a team is supposedly capable of based on their body of work, but the choices become fewer as many contestants have already used the NFL’s top teams. With the Dolphins taking on the Bills this week, the much-used Patriots facing the Jets, the 49ers traveling to Washington, and four teams being on bye, who will be the go-to team of choice?
