Was the Steelers win over the Chargers because of Devlin Hodges, or in spite of him?

The Pittsburgh Steelers were big winners in Week 6, but was the win because of Devlin Hodges?

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Devlin Hodges went to the West Coast on Sunday night and helped lead the Steelers to a surprising victory against the Los Angeles Chargers. The undrafted rookie free agent did not have a barn burner of a night but he did not embarrass himself either. He finished 15 of 20 for 132 yards to go along with a touchdown and an interception to bring home a much needed 24-17 victory.

Hodges was filling in for Mason Rudolph who had not cleared the concussion protocol from the injury he suffered against the Baltimore Ravens the week before.

While Hodges was efficient completing 75 percent of his passes, he made mistakes even on the passes he completed. Occasionally, Hodges hurried throws when they did not need to be hurried and not letting plays develop. James Conner also helped him by breaking tackling and fighting for extra yards on crucial third-down conversions when Hodges checked down.

Hodges brought positives away from the night too. He has poise under pressure was in focus when center Maurkice Pouncey had a horrendous snap that barely got off the ground and sailed between Hodges’ feet. The Samford product scrambled after the loose ball and picked it up and exited the tackle box and threw it away to ensure the Steelers walked away with points.
