NFL Week 8 Betting Preview: Steelers open as 14.5-point favorites against the Dolphins

Even though the Steelers have lost a lot of ground according to the odds makers, Miami has lost even more

NFL: Pittsburgh Steelers at San Francisco 49ers Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

The Pittsburgh Steelers are returning to Heinz Field following a West Coast win and a week off to get healthy. On top of that, the Steelers are wearing their 4-0 color rush uniforms as they take on the Miami Dolphins on Monday Night Football. After losing another key starter to the Reserve/Injured List following their Week 6 game, the Steelers are looking as to how exactly they will fill the shoes of Stephon Tuitt.

Regardless of the Steelers injury situation, the Miami Dolphins seem to be the perfect opponent for the Steelers to make a statement that they are far from done when it comes to contending in the AFC North. Even though the Ravens did get an impressive win in Seattle in Week 7, there is still a lot of football to be played and the Steelers need to kick off the remainder of their season in a big way.

When it comes to the betting lines for Monday’s game, the following information is the current consensus spread and over/under for the Steelers this week as reported by oddsshark.com.

Game Info: Week 8

Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Miami Dolphins

Monday, October 28, 2019 at 8:15 PM

Betting line: -14.5

Over/under: 42.5

Last Regular Season Meeting: Steelers (L) 15-30 vs Dolphins

Win streak: 1 games PIT (playoffs)

Last 3 Meetings: PIT 2 - 1 MIA

Last 10 Meetings: PIT 7 - 3 MIA

The opening line on the game was -10 when the schedule was released in April. With the Dolphins starting off 0-6, the line moved in the direction of the Steelers regardless of their injury situation.

Being the overwhelming favorite on Monday, the Steelers have a current moneyline of -900 to win the game straight up, which is the equivalent of 1/9 odds. So a $20 bet placed on the Steelers over the Dolphins would have a payout of $22.22 ($2.22 plus the original $20 bet). The Dolphins have a current moneyline of +600, or 6/1 odds. Therefore the same $20 bet placed on Miami to win straight up would have a payout of $140.00 ($120.00 pus the original $20 bet).

According to Oddsshark.com, the Steelers are 7-1 straight up in their last seven games in October and are 4-1 straight up in their last 5 home games against Miami. The Steelers have had their total go UNDER in five of their last seven games.

If looking at the futures bets, the Steelers odds to win the Super Bowl vary from 40/1 to 100/1. They also have varying odds to win the AFC Championship from 25/1 odds to 35/1. As for winning the AFC North, the Steelers are at 5/1 odds and they are projected to place third the AFC North. Both Baltimore (1/3) and Cleveland (4/1) have better odds to win the division while Cincinnati is still the biggest long shot to win the AFC North at 120/1.
