Elliott was with the Steelers in Week 3 through Week 5, playing 12 defensive snaps with one tackle. He also added 34 snaps on special teams. Elliott was released just before the Steelers’ Week 6 game against the Los Angeles Chargers along with offensive lineman Fred Johnson in order to make room for quarterback Paxton Lynch and running back Trey Edmunds due to the injuries to Mason Rudolph and Jaylen Samuels.
The Steelers made the corresponding move based on OLB Anthony Chickillo being placed on the Reserve/Commissioners Exemption List. Involved in a domestic dispute over the weekend, Chickillo was arrested and charged with simple assault, criminal mischief, and harassment due to an altercation with his girlfriend at Nemacolin Resort outside of Uniontown, PA.
The Steelers asked Chickillo not to report to the practice facility Monday as the team and the NFL gather more information as the police investigate the situation. Chickillo was reportedly at the facility on Wednesday but did not practice. It is unclear at this time how long Chickillo will remain on the exempt list or what the Steelers will do after the investigation.
