With neither party wanting to pursue the issue as both parties felt the entire incident was blown out of proportion. By withdrawing the charges, the authorities believe there was nothing about the situation which deserves criminal prosecution.
Originally charged with simple assault, criminal mischief, and harassment following his arrest during the Steelers’ bye week, Chickillo was placed on the commissioners exempt list by the NFL on Tuesday, October 22.
While criminal charges have been dismissed, the NFL could choose to take action against Chickillo based on conduct detrimental to the league. It is unsure at this time when the NFL will make any decision with Chickillo as to any sort of suspension or if to remove him from the list. Until then, Chickillo will continue to receive his salary but cannot participate in any team activities and does not count as a spot towards the 53-man roster.
