The second quarter saw more punts than points scored, but the Steelers looked to strike for the first time in the second frame when Rudolph hit Washington for a huge catch and run. With 2:15 left in the first half, Jared Goff dropped back on 3rd and 7 to deliver a pass and his throwing arm was hit by Javon Hargrave. The ball squirted forward, and was picked up by Minkah Fitzpatrick for the touchdown. The call on the field was a touchdown, and after review the call stood as called. After Boswell’s point after, the Steelers took their first lead of the game, 14-7.
The Rams failed to convert a third down the entire first half, and the Steelers got the ball back with 1:24 left in the half and all three timeouts remaining. After a three-and-out, Los Angeles moved the ball quickly into Pittsburgh territory and were able to attempt a 56-yard field goal by Greg Zuerlein, but the kick sailed wide left keeping the score 14-7 heading into halftime.
