Just hours ahead of their Thursday night matchup with the Cleveland Browns, the Pittsburgh Steelers have placed fullback Roosevelt Nix and wide receiver Ryan Switzer on the reserve/injured list. To complete their 53-man roster, the Steelers have promoted wide receiver Tevin Jones from the practice squad and re-signed outside linebacker Jayrone Elliott.

Unfortunately, 2019 was a very difficult year for Nix. After leaving the Steelers’ Week 1 game against the New England Patriots with an injury, Nix did not return to the team until after the bye week. The Week 8 matchup against the Miami Dolphins was Nix’s only full game as he was then injured in Week 9 against the Indianapolis Colts.
Ryan Switzer had played in every game for the Steelers in 2019 before leaving the Week 10 game against the Los Angeles Rams with a back injury. Missing some practice time leading up to the game, Switzer’s departure was not a complete surprise. With only eight receptions on the season, six of which which came in Week 1, Switzer was rarely used in the passing game. Switzer’s main role with the Steelers was both as a punt and kick returner, although his results were anything but stellar.
Jones has been on the Steelers practice squad for all of the 2018 and 2019 season. Undrafted our of Memphis in 2016, Jones spent time with both the Texans and Chiefs before landing in Pittsburgh last season. During this preseason, Jones caught one touchdown on five catches for 36 yards. While at Memphis, Jones caught 9 touchdowns in four seasons following a redshirt year. The most yards Jones had in a season in college was 442 yards his junior year in 2014.
Outside linebacker Jayrone Elliott rejoins the Steelers after seeing time with the team in Week 3 through Week 5 and then again in Week 8. Used mainly on special teams and sparingly on defense, Elliott has one tackle on the season although he returned a fumble for a touchdown in the Steelers final preseason game.
