BTSC Survivor Pool Update: Getting past the close call

The Minnesota Vikings had nearly half of those remaining sweating until the very end

The Behind The Steel Curtain survivor pool finished up its eleventh week where only seven contestants remain. While technically we started with 592 entries, I had one entry in each league as the commissioner so there were 587 different contestants. Hundreds have entered, but only one can go home with the autographed David DeCastro football. The only question remaining is how long will it take to determine a winner?

The most common selection for Week 11 were the Minnesota Vikings hosting the Denver Broncos and the Oakland Raiders at home against the Cincinnati Bengals each with three selections. The Vikings gave those contestants quite the scare as they were down 20-0 at the half. Even after Minnesota took a 27-23 lead, the Broncos had three chances from the four yard line to end the game. As for the Oakland Raiders, they never had more than a one-score lead on the Bengals. Trailing 17-10, the Bengals finished much quieter as they lost nine yards on a sack before throwing an interception on their final drive of the game.

The only other choice made was the New Orleans Saints over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. With the Saints jumping out to a 13-0 lead in the first quarter, the game was never really in question the rest of the way. With these three teams being selected, all seven contestants survived to next week.

As the season moves forward, it does become slightly easier to know what a team is supposedly capable of based on their body of work, but the choices become fewer as many contestants have already used the NFL’s top teams. With four teams on bye and some of the more obvious choice being teams many have already used, who will be the go-to team of choice?
