Kelly started free safety for the Steelers in Week 1 prior to them acquiring to Minkah Fitzpatrick and while Sean Davis was injured. Davis started in Week 2 before going on injured reserve when Fitzpatrick took over following the trade with the Miami Dolphins. Active every game, Kelly served as a back up playing sparingly in some defensive subpackages early this season while mainly being relegated to special teams. Since the Steelers’ bye week, Kelly has only logged one snap on defense.
According to reports, Kelly is charged with two counts of terroristic threats and one count of resisting arrest. Both charges are misdemeanors.
A standout in the failed Alliance of American Football, many Steelers’ fans were excited to see Kelly in training camp and throughout the preseason. Earning a spot on the 53-man roster, Kelly was thrust into duty against the defending Super Bowl Champions New England Patriots in his very first game.
On the season, Kelly has 15 tackles along with one interception in Week 5 against the Baltimore Ravens.
