One BTSC writer shares his real-time, initial thoughts of the Steelers battle with the Jets.

The Steelers control their own destiny and really need a win against the Jets to keep their playoff hopes alive. But after last week, the offense looks way to scary and winning seems unlikely. But the defense is incredible and may be their only hope.

Nonetheless, a simple reminder, a knee jerk reaction is an immediate and unthinking, emotional reaction. It’s basically shooting first and apologizing later. I can safely say that’s a true definition of your’s truly and a good lot of Steeler Nation. Here’s real-time reactions during the Steelers’ quest to extend their record to 9-6 and get in the playoffs.

Quarter 1

  • Here we go! This is a huge game
  • They are going to go to Le’Veon Bell a lot.
  • They are moving it.
  • Defense looks awful.
  • Buggs needs to be more aware. They got the first down anyhow, but still.
  • Beautiful catch by Anderson. He beat double coverage with that catch.

  • 7-0 Jets.
  • Offense has to counter.
  • Conner needs to lead them.
  • Looks good so far.
  • Duck looks calmer. Nice pass to Diontae Johnson.
  • And there’s the interception. Streak is at 22.
  • I’m not calling for it, but you might just see Rudolph in Q3.
  • Haden almost intercepted that. Love him as a corner, but he drops too many picks.
  • The defense is lucky that they got off the field there.
  • Why isn’t Conner out there?
  • Horrible series.
  • Punt coverage was poor there. Gave them good starting position again,
  • Bell is running well.
  • Did Watt get a piece of that. It looks that way.
  • End of one. Looking bad and down 7-zip.

Quarter 2

  • Defense has woken up.
  • 54-yarder. Only against the Steelers. 10-0.
  • Tennesse is up too. This is bad.
  • Offense has to get it going...now.
  • Vannett is a battler. Nice.
  • Let Conner run. That was nice.
  • That was dirty by the Jets. Can’t afford for a JWash to be out.
  • Pouncey with another bad snap.
  • Did he just get picked again?
  • Clock is striking midnight.
  • Going back to Rudolph. Neither QB is the answer.
  • Lynch isn’t either.
  • Another three and out. Thanks defense.
  • Let’s see if Rudolph is worth anything this time around.
  • Holton really could have screwed things up there.
  • Why is Snell in there?
  • Conner is banged up. That’s why.
  • No. 13 is back.
  • Great grab by him.
  • Here we go. They need to unleash.
  • That was a lucky false start. Another bad snap.
  • Pouncey is struggling.
  • Are you kidding me? The Browns are beating Baltimore.
  • Good tackle by Dupree. Loss of 11.
  • I was afraid Bell was going to pull Marcus Allen there.
  • Johnson with a nice return. It’s coming back.
  • Damn you Dangerfield.
  • Whyte is in. Lets get some points here.
  • If there is any chance, It has got to be on this drive.
  • Mason looks fresh. Good catch by DJ.
  • Is JuJu on the field?
  • There he is. Gotta catch those. Ridiculous.
  • They got to get in here.
  • Sacked. Good gravy!
  • Out of FG range.
  • Here comes Boswell. This is crucial.
  • Good!!!
  • Can’t let them get in range.
  • Watt!!!!!!!!!! No. 14.
  • Samuels got scary on that bobble.
  • Get in range. That would be tremendous.
  • They got the flag. Wow!
  • Five yards only. Ouch!
  • That was better. Amazing!

  • What a turn of events.
  • That’s the half. 10-10 with momentum.

Quarter 3

  • Ravens are taking control in Cleveland. Saints are trying to come back in Tennessee.
  • But got to take care of business. I think they can take control of this game if they can score a touchdown on the first drive of the second half.
  • JuJu lives.
  • That was bad. Where’s the helmet-to-helmet?
  • Jets are driving.
  • You know, you should really consider covering everybody. That means a tight end from West Virginia.
  • Le’Veon isn’t the same guy.
  • Big Bud with the sack. That’s 10.5 for Alvin.
  • FG. 13-10 Jets.
  • Decent return by Whyte.
  • Need points on this drive. But I will start with a first down.
  • Won’t get either.
  • Barron with huge coverage.
  • The running game is heating up.
  • Pouncey is hurt. Hate to see that.
  • Big league hookup with JuJu. Mason looks poised.
  • They need to just get in FG range here.
  • Dammit!
  • At least they pinned them back.
  • Bud and Cam hurt on the same play. Noooooooooooo!
  • End of three. Jets 13-Steelers 10

Quarter 4

  • I thought Sutton was going to pick that third down pass off. Needed that.
  • You gotta be kidding me. Neutral zone infraction.
  • Mason is hurt now too?
  • At least Bud is back.
  • Barron with good coverage.
  • Here comes Duck again.
  • This is a crazy season.
  • Whyte with a nice first down run.
  • Duck is battling.
  • I love DJ18.
  • Nobody blocked Quinnen Williams. Horrible.
  • Bad snap. Horrible O-Line.
  • They missed a penalty on the Steelers for delay. That would have really helped.
  • Bad punt by Berry...again. He has regressed.
  • They are going to blow this. Darn old is shredding them on this drive.
  • Huge third down play.
  • You’ve got to be kidding me.
  • They need a sack or a turnover.
  • Alualu gets a cheap sack there on the mishandled snap.Doesn’t help much.
  • Need a real one.
  • Big third down.
  • Crap. They are in FG range now.
  • 16-10 Jets,
  • Who is the QB gonna be?
  • It is Duck. He needs seven. I have to believe. But I don’t.
  • Sack again.
  • Almost got picked.
  • This is bad.
  • This is eerily reminiscent of last week.
  • Defense did there job. But gonna take a miracle.
  • Nice bounce. But need a TD not a FG.
  • This is your season.
  • That was almost a beautiful catch by Washington.
  • Ridiculous. JuJu blew it.
  • Hell. Everybody blew it.

Once again, I just shot first and I’ll apologize later. All reactions were in real time. Basically, it is the equivalent of watching me do the highlights if I hadn’t been bypassed by the major networks. Now time to watch it again and see what really happened.
