JuJu Smith-Shuster active for Steelers in Week 16 vs. Jets

Even with no injury status, it wasn’t a guarantee Smith-Schuster would return after missing the last 4 games

The Pittsburgh Steelers have released their inactives for their game against the New York Jets. With no players ruled out due to injury, the list is made up of seven healthy scratches.

Wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster returns to the Steelers’ lineup after missing the last four games with a knee injury. During the previous week, Smith-Schuster pushed his knee too early in the week and was unable to play in the Steelers’ home finale. Learning from the previous setback, Smith-Schuster returned in a limited fashoin early in the week and pregressed to full participant. Since Smith-Schuster was able to go, newly promoted WR Amara Darboh is not active.

In Week 15, the Steelers opted to go with five running backs and only four defensive linemen. For Week 16, the Steelers decided to go with a different philosophy as rookie DT Isaiah Buggs is active. Instead, newly promoted safety Marcus Allen is inactive as the Steelers will go with only three safeties.

As for the rest of the inactive list, it looks extremely familiar when compared to the last several weeks. Third-string quarterback Paxton Lynch is inactive yet again. Other players filling up the inactive list are OT Chukwuma Okorafor, LB Tuzar Skipper, and CB Artie Burns. TE Zach Gentry returns to the list after filling an active spot due to the absence of Vance McDonald in Week 16 as he made his way through the NFL concussion protocol.

As for the Jets inactives, they can be seen below. Two former Steelers who were questionable are both active in Steve McLendon and Kelvin Beachum.
