On paper, this Week 16 game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Jets seems pretty easy to pick. 8-6 vs. 5-9 should be a slam dunk, right? Well, with this Steelers’ offense nothing is guaranteed.
If you had asked fans prior to Week 15 what they thought, they would have likely said this game would be over before it even began. However, after Devlin Hodge’s 4 interception day vs. the Buffalo Bills on prime time, doubt has crept into everyone’s mind in a bad way.
Picking this game just got a lot more difficult, but despite the roller coaster ride that is the Steelers’ 2019 season if there was a game when Pittsburgh was due to bounce back, it would be this one.
Not only are the Jets a team reeling at the end of the season, but the Steelers are finally healthy on offense. With Hodges still at quarterback, he will not only have a healthy offensive line, but also James Conner and JuJu Smith-Schuster in the lineup as well. That hasn’t been able to be said for at least the past month as Smith-Schuster’s last game was the Week 11 loss in Cleveland.
Could there be an offensive explosion at Metlife Stadium? I wouldn’t go that far, but when I think about how this game will play out I see the Steelers’ defense giving Sam Darnold trouble, choking off the running game and making life miserable for Le’Veon Bell.
Time for the prediction...
My Prediction:
Steelers - 23
Jets - 16
I think this game might be close early, but the Steelers defense will create some turnovers to put the offense in position to put some points on the board. Oh, and I think the Steelers’ turnover streak continues and reaches 22 consecutive games where the team gives the ball away.
