The Pittsburgh Steelers have painted themselves into a proverbial corner heading into a Week 17 matchup with the Baltimore Ravens. After a Week 16 loss to the New York Jets, the Steelers no longer control their own destiny, but need help to make the postseason. The simplest scenario is to beat the Ravens, and have the Tennessee Titans lose to the Houston Texans.
Completing the first part of that scenario might be a little easier than many believed just a few weeks ago. The Ravens are going to be resting many of their starters, including Lamar Jackson, Marshall Yanda and Mark Ingram. Many black-and-gold faithful are wondering if the Steelers could even beat the Ravens backups at this point.
And while there is a scenario where the Steelers lose and still make the postseason, it is a long and winding road to that outcome taking place. So, what do the experts think will happen at M&T Bank Stadium this Sunday at 4:25 p.m. ET?
Time to take a look...
There is only one pro-Steelers site who has several experts picking the Steelers, and that would be at ESPN. The 10 person panel is actually split 5-5 between the Steelers and Ravens in Week 17.
Other than ESPN, you have sites who are as pro-Ravens as it gets. The haters here at SB Nation have a clean sweep picking Baltimore, and CBS Sports only has two experts who think the Steelers can win on the road and increase their odds of making the postseason.
At CBS, Pete Prisco provides more than just a pick, but elaborates on his thoughts. See what he thinks will take place on Sunday between these AFC North rivals.
The Steelers need this game in the worst way to have a playoff shot, while the Ravens are locked in as the top seed. The Ravens will be resting guys, mainly Lamar Jackson, which gives the Steelers a shot. But Robert Griffin III is better than Duck Hodges anyway. Ravens still win, even though they are resting people.
Pick: Ravens 21, Steelers 17
These are just a handful of sites who provide weekly picks, but what about all the other sites who give their thoughts on the outcomes of NFL games every week? This is where NFL Pick Watch comes in. They take all expert picks and compile them into an easy-to-read graph for fans to view.
According to them, only 35% of experts like the Steelers to win on Sunday. But what about the Titans? They have 65% of experts liking the Titans to beat the Texans, who likely won’t have anything to play for on the final week of the regular season.
What do you think will go down on Sunday, and not just at M&T Bank Stadium, but around the AFC? Let us know in the comment section below!
