Javon Hargrave has improved and developed into a very solid interior D-lineman for the Steelers since coming to the team as a third rounder in 2016. But depth at the position could take a hit if the average Tyson Alualu leaves via free agency. Here are the top Free Agent opportunities, and whether or not they would be a possibility for the Steelers.
Grady Jarrett - Atlanta Falcons
Jarrett should be highly coveted on the free agent market, maybe more by a team that runs a 4-3. A dominant run stopper and pass rusher, the 26-year old had six of his 14 career sacks last year.
Sheldon Richardson - Minnesota Vikings
The 28-year old is a very talented interior defensive lineman who can play in both the 3-4 and 4-3. The former Jet, Seahawk and Viking has 23.5 career sacks and could garner a lot of attention on the free agent market.
Muhammad Wilkerson - Green Bay Packers
Wilkerson was a top-flight 3-4 DE/DT in the entire NFL. Then he got paid in 2016 and was believed to be just phoning it in and was cut. He’s still only 29 and despite only playing three games last season, the belief is that he could be worth a prove-it deal and get back to playing at a high level.
Michael Pierce (RFA) - Baltimore Ravens
The Steelers have seen a lot of the 26-year old over the past couple of years and have struggled running the ball against him. In fact, Pierce is an elite run stopper. It would cost a team compensation to sign the RFA, but he’s high quality and could be worth it.
Henry Anderson - New York Jets
The third-rounder of the Colts in 2015 was a disappointment with only three sacks in three seasons. Anderson has always been solid against the run, but his seven sacks for the Jets in 2018 is promising.
