Comparing the Pittsburgh Steelers to the Kardashians appears to be becoming a thing this offseason after J.J. Watt was the latest to invoke the dysfunctional family name when talking about the Steelers during an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers on Thursday night.
With Meyers a passionate Pittsburgh fan, it should come as no surprise to learn that he would ask the Houston Texans’ star player for his thoughts about what happening with his younger brother’s team. But if he was hoping for some inside information, J.J. was giving very little away.
“It does seem very dramatic. It’s like somebody that’s watching the Kardashians and I can call one of the Kardashians. I’ll call my brother, see everything on TV, and I’m like ‘Ok, give me the real story.’ And um ... it’s pretty wild.”
While it would seem that T.J. has shared some intimate details of what has been going on within the Steelers organization, it is interesting to note that J.J. showed more discretion than some of their own players. Given the inside information former team members have been divulging as of late, it is hard to imagine they would have sat on the stories J.J. must have heard from his brother. All things considered, acknowledging that things are “pretty wild” is rather tame.
Pittsburgh fans can only wonder how differently the locker room might operate with a player like J.J. Watt on the roster. With no disrespect intended to T.J. who is still far too early in his career to command such a role, his older brother appears to provide a level of leadership for the Texans that the Steelers seem to lack.
