The Pittsburgh Steelers have been busy so far this offseason. They haven’t just gone out and gotten some fresh new faces in free agency, but are also re-signing some of their own at the same time.
Here is a list of the transactions the Steelers have made so far this season:
- Signed Maurkice Pouncey to new 3-year contract
- Signed Ramon Foster to new 2-year contract
- Signed Anthony Chickillo to new 2-year contract
- Brought in free agent CB Steven Nelson
- Signed Jordan Berry to a new 2-year contract
- Brought in free agent WR Donte Moncrief
Next on the list? None other than ‘The Shade Tree’. That’s right, big Daniel McCullers. This per ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler:
Steelers are re-signing DT Dan McCullers to a two-year deal, per source. Big Dan back for sixth season with the team.

With ‘Big Dan’ back in the fold, it looks as if the defensive front is set for the 2019 season, but many fans will wonder why the team is bringing McCullers back. Clearly the team must have seen some improvement in McCullers play while he was on his one-year deal in 2018, and McCullers does offer depth at nose tackle, and on goal line situations.
The top knock on McCullers always has, and maybe always will, be his lack of competitive fire. With his size you would think he would annihilate offensive linemen, but gets stood up and becomes just another player way too often.
Regardless what the fan base thinks of McCullers, the Steelers like him enough to sign him to a two-year deal.
