As the college pro day schedule continues to heat up, the past few days have seen some of the more notable schools in the country open their doors to the NFL for their annual events. And with so many different colleges holding their pro days on the same date, the Pittsburgh Steelers have been forced to spread their staff thin in some places to be sure of catching all the action.
Wednesday represented a significant conundrum for the Steelers decision makers, with Ohio State, Georgia, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh and USC just some of the schools hosting their pro day on March 20. Choosing to forgo their regular annual visit to Columbus to check out the talent the Buckeyes have to offer in 2019, it was interesting to note that both Mike Tomlin and Kevin Colbert were absent this time around.
Opting to go Notre Dame instead, Colbert was one of several big names spotted on the sidelines during the event. according to Pete Sampson of The Athletic, as was new assistant defensive and secondary coach Teryl Austin, seen running drills with cornerback Julian Love.
Those with a keen eye might also notice Colbert watching wide receiver Miles Boykin running his routes around the halfway mark of this video:
Meanwhile, the Steelers offensive and defensive coordinators made an appearance at the University Georgia to take in all the action there.
A few notes from @FootballUGA pro day yesterday:
— Gil Brandt (@Gil_Brandt) March 21, 2019
- All 32 teams attended, including Cards DB coach Marcus Robertson, Steelers OC (Randy Fichtner) and DC (Keith Butler).
- Deandre Baker had good workout but dropped a few balls. Ran in same 40 range as combine (4.0/4.53)
And although it would appear that Tomlin did not go to Ohio State this year, it is clear there was someone there representing Pittsburgh. It seems the Steelers will also be getting a closer look at running back Mike Webber when he comes to the Steel City for a visit in the coming weeks. As per Dan Hope of Buckeyes website Eleven Warriors.
All 32 NFL teams had reps at Ohio State's pro day.

Lions, Steelers, Bengals all had their RB coaches at Pitt's pro day yesterday presumably to watch Qadree Ollison (6-1, 232) work out. Stood on all his combine numbers with exception of short shuttle (4.25) and 3-cone (7.13). He improved both from combine (4.31/7.53)

Thursday saw both Tomlin and Colbert at West Virginia for the Mountaineers’ pro day, arriving in town the day before to met with wide receivers Gary Jennings and David Sills.
#Steelers GM Kevin Colbert and head coach Mike Tomlin are here at @WVUfootball Pro Day. Standing next to them are WRs Gary Jennings and David Sills. You know who has a knack for finding mid round gems at that position? ( via producer extraordinaire @APGroover) pic.twitter.com/JRF4E6LNro

As we uncover more of the events that Pittsburgh staff members have been noted at over the past few days, we will be sure to update this post.
The focus for the Steelers will now move on to LSU on Friday, with two prospects who are sure to be of interest to them in cornerback Greedy Williams and linebacker Devin White.
