Day two of our Live Mock Draft is complete and in the books, completing rounds two and three. Once again, there were no trades made by yours truly, riding with the hand that was dealt. I saw many comments about trading up to get a Devin in Round 1, but it just didn’t happen. Hopefully for Steelers Nation, and Behind The Steel Curtain’s sake, Kevin Colbert makes a trade.
On to why we are here, the Day 2 haul I wasn’t sure if Deebo Samuel was going to make it to the team’s pick at 52. There was a run on the position at the start of the round where five out ten picks were Wide Receiver.
Samuel offers up a solid route runner driven by great breaks in and out of his set up. He has the ability to play in the slot and on the outside. Confident player with some wiggle and running back vision after the catch.
Pick No. 66 in round three went to Taylor Rapp, an in the box safety. He won’t be confused with Terrell Edmunds or Sean Davis, and the athletic side they bring to the position. Instead he is a downhill tackling machine, maybe the best in this class. Makes up for his lack of athleticism with correct reads. He has a role as a Nickel backer and 3 safety sub package. The biggest thing is he won’t be out of position and the term “football player” has been attached.
The next pick won’t go over well, if you take into account that we missed out on one of the top inside backers in the draft. Blake Cashman, viewed by some as a reach here, had a terrific combine and has moved up many boards. He offers decent size and speed and has decent coverage ability. If he can cleanup some of the diagnosing and add some strength the former walk-on has the potential to be a steal.
...
I don’t have to tell you, but let me know what you think. Don’t just look at the picks I have made, but look around at the other picks. Tell us about who got drafted to soon and who were the value picks. Remember this is a mock draft, and the best aspect of mock drafts are they create discussion.
The draft resumes next Saturday and Sunday.
