Steelers 2019 Free Agent Market Watch: The Centers

Whether it’s a position of great need or one that can use more depth, BTSC continues to take a look at available free agents. This time around it’s the Centers.

Offensive line was definitely one of the strongest units for the Steelers last season, again featuring a Pro Bowler at C in Maurkice Pouncey. Even with Pounce entering his tenth season, the position is not a top consideration to address. B.J. Finney’s contract is up, so the backup to No. 53 needs to be looked at. Here are the top Free Agent opportunities at the position.

Mitch Morse - Kansas City Chiefs

The only problem with this ultra-talented player is his health. Morse missed 40% of his games the past two years. However, he’s 27 and pass protects at a high level. His instincts at the position could make him a find, but his injury history could hold him back. A starter like Morse wouldn’t be a top priority in Pittsburgh.

Matt Paradis - Denver Broncos

Paradis is excellent at his craft and considered top-tier at the position. At 30, he’s still a good option for many a team. He missed the last seven contests of 2018 due to a leg break, but that’s the only missed work-time of Paradis’ career.

John Halapio - New York Giants

The 28-year old is in many ways a lot like Paradis. He’s a very good Center, but a bone-break cost him the 2018 season. Halapio should be okay from his ankle break and could get looks from other teams.

B.J. Finney - Pittsburgh Steelers

Steeler fans all know about the passion and play of Finney. He would continue to be a fine option as a backup Center and Guard, but other teams could offer him a deal that would price him out of town.

Ryan Kalil - Carolina Panthers

Injuries may lead the perennial Pro Bowler to hang ‘em up. He might not be an option for anyone.

Other Notable Centers:

Matt Skura - Baltimore Ravens

Gino Gradkowski - Denver Broncos

Tyler Shatley - Jacksonville Jaguars
