The future is now for the Pittsburgh Steelers, and with the 2019 NFL Draft just weeks away it is time we go through specific scenarios and discuss just what could go right, and wrong, with the Steelers in the first round of the draft.

We will be doing almost one scenario a week, and more leading up to the draft, which will always provide a different result, as well as the explanation behind the selection.

Time for the Steelers 2019 NFL Draft scenario 2.0.

Scenario: With the Pittsburgh Steelers selecting 20th in the 2019 NFL Draft, this scenario includes the fact the Steelers do not trade up in the draft, but because they see a run on potential prospects before they get to make a pick they do something they haven’t done in the Kevin Colbert era — trade out of the 1st round.

Devin White, Devin Bush, Greedy Williams, Byron Murphy, the Iowa TE duo among others are all off the board before No. 20, and the Steelers have a choice to make. They could take a player who most don’t value as a 1st round talent, or accept a trade to move back in the draft.

Steelers Pick: Kevin Colbert has never traded out of the first round in his tenure with the Steelers, but without a player worthy of a first round pick, the return was too good and plenty of talent remains in the 2nd and 3rd rounds. The Steelers gain high 2nd round pick and a late 5th round pick for the 20th pick..

Analysis: The thought of not having a first round pick is depressing to some, but with the thought of players like Artie Burns and Terrell Edmunds, who almost everyone would declare as a ‘reach’, fresh in there minds they should be okay with the thought of trading back in the draft.

This isn’t Colbert’s style but there is a ridiculous amount of talent there to be had in the 2nd and 3rd rounds. Players like Hakeem Butler and Germaine Pratt should still be there, and with loads of Day 2 picks the Steelers could really enhance their roster with those picks.

With that said, the depression of not celebrating a first round pick could, and probably should, be dampened when the team gets some very good player on Day 2.

...

What would you think of this scenario played out when the draft began Thursday? Would you be storming the Steelers’ headquarters wanting Colbert’s head on a platter, or would you be okay with the move? Let us know in the comment section below!
