Mike Tomlin has been downright awful at challenges the past three seasons. This isn’t a little known fact among the Pittsburgh Steelers’ fan base. Desperately in need of help, Tomlin finally brought in some help. Newly hired assistant Teryl Austin will be helping Tomlin with this role, along with helping with the defensive secondary, moving forward.
Just look at some of these stats via Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette:
Mike Tomlin has not had any of his past 10 challenges, dating to '16 AFC Championship game, overturned by replay. Since beginning of 2016 season, he's had just 2 of 14 challenges overturned. He is 8 of 17 since 2014. He's never had a 4th down challenge overturned (0 for 12).

New senior def asst/secondary coach Teryl Austin will assist with replay reviews in 2018. “What I want to do is give Mike a perspective on whether we should challenge or not challenge, try to streamline the process so we’re more efficient in that area,” Austin said.

Austin will prep for his role by watching every replay challenge in '18.

“I’ll find out why they were overturned or not overturned, so I can formulate a plan of, when I see something, I think this can possibly be overturned or OK, keep the flag in your pocket it won’t be.”
It seems as if the Steelers are taking a closer look into the replay challenges for the 2019 season, and rightfully so considering the fact pass interference calls will be suspect to review.
