Ben Roethlisberger addressed the media before the team took the field for their first training camp practice on Friday. When asked about what fans should look forward to from the Steelers offense this season, Roethlisberger started with himself.

“I have to play better.”

Rothlisberger was quick to transition into praise for his offensive teammates.

“I know the rest of the guys are excited about what they bring to the table. I’m excited for guys, from running backs, to tight ends, to receivers. Obviously the line is who they are: pretty special.”

When asked about what he wanted to see from his receivers in 2019, Rothlisberger first noted what he already knows of his receivers before talking about the rapport they need to develop.

“To me I know what they can do. I know that they can catch. I know that they can play. I want to see who makes the least amount of mistakes. Who can get a subtle hand signal, who can interpret even visual signals.”

Rothlisberger also stated how much he looks forward to developing relationships with his receivers.

“That’s the fun part. That’s the part I enjoy and that they’ve enjoyed so far, too, I think. Just seeing how we can mesh together.”

Roethlisberger was then asked about filling the void in targets from 2018 and how he envisions the ball being distributed.

“I try to get it to guys that are open. The best matchup’s. Things like that. I think it will be a combination of a lot of guys. I really do. From tight ends, to running backs, to receivers.”
