The Pittsburgh Steelers have had three training camp practices under their belt now, and while it is still considered “football in shorts”, the team has had plenty of news coming from these workouts.
The biggest aspect of the first padded practice is often how the rookies get acclimated to the speed and physicality of the NFL game. If you are like me, hearing from the rookies is one of the biggest facets of training camp. Who is showing promise? Who is struggling?
After the Steelers’ first padded practice it looks as if several players in the 2019 NFL Draft class got good reports after Sunday’s workout.
This per Jeremy Fowler of ESPN:
From Steelers:

*Good rookie day: Diontae Johnson w/ nifty TD at GL, Justin Layne/Devin Bush solid, Benny Snell held own in pass pro
*Steelers (QB included) pleased w/ Donte Moncrief, believe they have something
*Artie Burns secured $800K roster bonus and INT on same day
Diontae Johnson, Devin Bush and Benny Snell have all had a good bit of publicity so far this training camp, but it was good to see Justin Layne’s name get listed among the rookies who showed some promise after Sunday’s workout.
Devin Bush showed off his coverage skills with several pass breakups Benny Snell showed he is more than capable of holding his own in pass protection and it seems as if Johnson is starting to come into his own as a receiver.
Not a bad day for the rookies at all.
Time to hit on some other news from Day 3 at camp...
Sleeper at the running back position??
There are certain positions where you just wonder how the numbers will work. At running back you have James Conner, Jaylen Samuels and Benny Snell Jr. With reports of Ralph Webb showing out this offseason and in the early portions of training camp, how could they keep four running backs on the roster?
Plenty of time to get this sorted out...
This per James Wexell of Steel City Insider:
My sleeper Ralph Webb showing out today in run scrimmage. No. 6 all-time rusher in SEC.

Mark Barron also given an off day
Everyone, including this establishment, wrote about Ben Roethlisberger and Maurkice Pouncey getting the day off Sunday, but another player was also given the day off. Newly signed ILB/S Mark Barron was given the day off as well. This provided plenty of reps for rookie Devin Bush in the first padded practice.

Drew Rosenhaus present
It usually isn’t talked about when a player’s agent is present at training camp, but when it looks like Joe Haden will get a new contract, and there are several other players he represents on the field, it is noteworthy.
Drew Rosenhaus was at camp speaking with Omar Khan, and the thought is a deal between Haden and the Steelers is on the horizon.

Injury Report
Add Sean Davis (dislocated finger) to T.J. Watt (hamstring) and Johnny Holton (hamstring) o the growing list of banged up players.
Steelers safety Sean Davis suffered a finger injury that might be a dislocation, coach Mike Tomlin said after practice Sunday.
