Why Pittsburgh Steelers fans shouldn’t fall for news out of Training Camp

With Steelers fans clinging to any type of news they can get their hands on, a warning should be put next to everything coming out of Training Camp.

NFL: Pittsburgh Steelers-Training Camp Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

The Pittsburgh Steelers are knee deep in their training camp schedule, and with it comes a cornucopia of news coming out of Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, PA.

You could fill in the blanks after every practice...

________ is having a tremendous camp!!

Look out for ________ this season after a stout series of practices!

The struggles ________ is experiencing could put into question his spot on the 53-man roster.

I could go on, but you should understand what I’m saying. The main factor here is not only how every reporter who is at training camp has their own opinion on certain matters, but also how these are practices.

Period.

Just practice, and like Allen Iverson famously coined, “We are talking about practice?! Not a game, but practice?!”

Fans rightfully want to cling to anything and everything Pittsburgh Steelers related. After all, they just had to suffer through one of the longest offseasons in recent memory after the team failed to make the playoffs in 2018, but let’s not go overboard when it comes to practices with Steelers going against Steelers.

How many times have you seen situations in camp where during the team’s ‘7 Shots’ segment, reporters say something to the tune of “A strike for a TD, but probably would have been a sack.” This is just a glimpse of how this isn’t real football, not yet.

But don’t worry, the real deal is coming soon enough, next Friday to be exact when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers come to Heinz Field, but until then, all fans should try and take all training camp news with a big grain of salt.

This is where the BTSC podcast “Yeah, I Said It” comes in. My co-host on ‘The Standard is the Standard’, Lance Williams, goes in-depth talking about why fans shouldn’t just fall for everything they read/hear coming out of camp.

Lance delivers the goods on the latest show.
