Steelers vs. Seahawks, Week 2: Knee-Jerk Reactions to the Steelers’ devastating loss to the Seahawks

One BTSC writer shares his real-time, initial thoughts of the Steelers first home contest of 2019, a big one, against the Seattle Seahawks.

Here we go! The Steelers got a chance to wash off the stench of that sickening loss last week to the Pats. A better game plan was helpful, but Donte Moncrief, a horrible call, a couple of big injuries and a tiring defense got in the way of that.

Nonetheless, a simple reminder, a knee jerk reaction is an immediate and unthinking, emotional reaction. It’s basically shooting first and apologizing later. I can safely say that’s a true definition of your’s truly and a good lot of Steeler Nation. Here’s my real-time reactions during the Steelers’ chance at redemption as they look for their first win of the new season.

Quarter 1

  • Here we go. Redemption time.
  • Nice to see that they are finally remembering Vance Macdonald.
  • That sack wasn’t Ramon Foster’s fault. He held his block. Ben held on to the ball.
  • T.J. Watt with the big time sack. Credit Tuitt with getting him free.
  • Ben looks really uncomfortable.
  • Nice Special Teams play. That’s why Johnny Holton is there.
  • Watt is a superstar. That sack was perfect.
  • You can’t let a running back get a first down on First and 18.
  • Pathetic miss on Lockett by Terrell Edmunds. C’mon.
  • Tuitt and Barron with a sweet sack.
  • Got to stop them on Third and 15.
  • Tuitt is having a monster day.
  • Nice run by Connor to get things started and Banner ruined it.
  • Dave Schofield was eight. Xavier Grimble in at fullback.
  • Nice awareness by a Ben to get that
  • Take that haters. Benny Snell Football!!! 23 for 24.
  • Ben wanted Holton, Right through his hands. Nuts.
  • Bush and Watt got blocked on another big run by Carson.
  • Sure that long pass to Dissly is coming back. But he shouldn’t have been open.
  • Vince Williams out with a Grammy. That’s not good.
  • Watt with a sweet punch out of the ball. Barron....yes!!!
  • Darn you, Sean Davis. I had the Steelers in my FanDuel league.
  • Samuels with a sweet grab. But out of bounds with a flag.

Quarter 2

  • A defensive PI challenge by BDay Boy Pete Carroll. Bold choice.
  • Poor choice,
  • TD by Conner. Sweet. 7-0
  • Nice coverage by Steven Nelson.
  • Oh boy. Watt great play, but looks like he got the wind knocked out of him.
  • Sweet coverage by Edmunds on Lockett.
  • Seattle keeps moving the chains on them.
  • Not this time. Cam with the huge stop on third down.
  • That penalty looks like it’s on us. To quote Keifer Sutherland as Jack Bauer in 24....”Dammit!!!!”
  • McCullers with a real dumb penalty and it cost them.
  • Ben had Washington open. Got it deflected.
  • Tuitt getting another half of a sack. He thinks he has three though.
  • Good. Johnson with an opportunity for a punt return. Not much, but more than Switzer.
  • Its a shame JuJu got held, that would have been a huge gain.
  • Washington great hands.
  • Ben is really heating up.
  • Ben’s elbow looks scary.
  • McDonald blocked too soon. That first down is coming back.
  • How is that not a face mask penalty?
  • Bad snap. Great hold. Scary make. 10-7.
  • They are chewing up yardage on the Steelers defense like crazy.
  • Sutton coming up huge. Twice.
  • The Seahawks played themselves out of field goal range.
  • 58-yard attempt. Myers had the distance but wide. Schofield would have made it.
  • 10-7 at the half.

Quarter 3

  • “Dirty Red” just got clotheslined on the kickoff, no call.
  • A Bud Dupree sighting...nice.
  • I thought Watt got held. Nice stop by Edmunds to force a punt.
  • Here we go with some Mason Rudoloph action.
  • They need to give him opportunities.
  • Donte Moncrief caused that pick. Ridiculous.
  • Good pass. Crappy receiver.
  • Davis hurt again.
  • You gotta like Stevie Nelson. That was a key cover.
  • Davis is back with a huge hit.
  • Corner blitz is weakening them. This isn’t good,
  • Mason needs a big completion to settle in,
  • That was a great run by No. 30.
  • Beautiful trick play. That’s the pass we needed. Everybody executed it perfectly.
  • JuJu with great effort.
  • Held to a FG. But that drive makes me feel better.
  • They are going to dink and dunk on the Steelers now.
  • What the hell just happened?
  • Chickillo with a pathetic miss. This is going bad.
  • They have got to get points here at the end of the third.
  • Fichtner is getting a chance to be the OC.

Quarter 4

  • Great catch to start the quarter for Dionte Johnson.
  • Mason on the scramble with huge awareness.
  • Conner can’t be hurt. Nice to have Samuels with the nice run.
  • I agree with Dave Schofield that these are the guys that played all preseason, that’s why they are gelling.
  • The Vanimal with a huge touchdown from a poised Mason Rudolph.
  • “Renegade” was just played at the stadium. I hope the defense responds.
  • Watt got held on that but Dupree got away with a helmet-to-helmet.
  • I get trying to challenge. But that’s a crazy challenge.
  • You have got to be kidding me? Maybe that was a make up call. That could be a game changing play.
  • And like that, Edmunds get victimized and the Seahawks have a big lead.
  • Samuels has a lot of burst.
  • Mason doesn’t look bad.
  • But time is of the essence.
  • And a punt.
  • Fumble! Run the other way.
  • What a play.
  • This won’t be a touchback.
  • Give it to Samuels.
  • Play action...Vanimal with his second.
  • Lets go defense.
  • Letting them move. Desperately need a stop.
  • Got to stop them on third and a lot.
  • He fell forward. It’s over.

Once again, I just shot first and I’ll apologize later. All reactions were in real time. Basically, it is the equivalent of watching the game with me, you just don’t have to listen to me chew my food and listen to me ramble. Now time to watch it again and see what really happened.
