The Pittsburgh Steelers are now in an 0-3 after Week 3 of the 2019 regular season, but how they got to this record is the most concerning part. After a 33-3 drubbing by the defending champion New England Patriots, the Steelers followed it up with a close 28-26 loss to the Seattle Seahawks in Week 2 at Heinz Field. The loss was more than just another loss on the record, but the team lost Ben Roethlisberger in the process. With Mason Rudolph under center in Week 3, he was unable to lead the Steelers to victory over the San Francisco 49ers in Santa Clara.
But before we get ahead of ourselves, it is that time of week where we check in on what other outlets are saying about the black-and-gold in those weekly Power Ranking articles. We all realize these rankings are completely meaningless, but they are great for discussion. Not just where the Steelers are ranked, but who made the Top 5 who should have, or shouldn’t have?

What we got wrong: That the Steelers could run the ball effectively.
“James Conner behind a seasoned offensive line seemed like a layup for big yardage entering the year, but Pittsburgh is among the league’s worst on the ground with 192 yards on 51 carries (3.76 yards per attempt). Sure, the absence of Antonio Brown and Ben Roethlisberger limits the vertical threats and clogs rushing lanes, but the Steelers can’t seem to figure out what’s happening. Center Maurkice Pouncey simply said, “I don’t know” to that question, and assured he would fix things if he did. The only Steeler with a rush longer than 14 yards is rookie Benny Snell Jr. -- Brooke Pryor”

“It sounds crazy to put a loss on a defense that created five turnovers, but the failure by the Steelers’ D to step up in crunch time helps explain this team’s 0-3 record. Twice against the 49erson Sunday, Pittsburgh quarterback Mason Rudolph put Pittsburgh ahead with touchdown passes in the second half, and twice, a Steelers defense loaded with premium draft picks failed to keep Jimmy Garoppolo from leading the 49ers back to the end zone. Steelers brass showed they were still all in on 2019 by acquiring defensive back Minkah Fitzpatrick in exchange for a first-round pick last week, but that selection -- now the property of the Miami Dolphins -- could turn into a top-10 premium slot if the Steelers keep losing. Rudolph was a mixed bag in his first NFL start, but as the rest of this Ben Roethlisberger-less season wears on, the second-year pro will need more help from running back James Conner, who had a killer fumble that led to San Fran’s go-ahead score and is averaging just 2.9 yards per carry through three games.”

Mason Rudolph made a few plays thanks to his wide receivers, but he seemed overwhelmed for most of his first start. Minkah Fitzpatrick did help the defense, and although he can play every position, he can’t be everywhere at once.
