Predicting the winner of Pittsburgh Steelers vs. New England Patriots, Week 1

Predicting the winner of Steelers vs. Patriots in Week 1 on Sunday Night Football.

NFL: New England Patriots at Pittsburgh Steelers Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

The NFL knows how to maximize their ratings, and what better way to do that than with Pittsburgh Steelers vs. New England Patriots in Week 1 on Sunday Night Football. As two of the most successful teams in the league the past decade go head-to-head, everyone wants to know who will win the game.

Well, obviously no one knows for sure, but here at BTSC we will give it our best shot and hope for the best.

As a part of a three-part series, I was able to ask Pats Pulpit editor Bernd Buchmasser several questions, one of which was what his prediction for the game was. Check it out below:

The Steelers won the last game between the two teams, yes, but the Patriots should still be seen as the favorites on Sunday night: they play at home, should have a strong team in all three phases, and have historically been successful against Pittsburgh. It will be a closer game than a lot of folks anticipate (especially in New England), but I would never bet against Tom Brady and Bill Belichick at home. 28-24 Patriots.

As for me, I think it will be a close game, and one that might be lower scoring than most are predicting. I like the Steelers’ defense, and think the Patriots’ defense could be one of the best units in the AFC.

With the Patriots giving 5.5 the last I checked, I’ll definitely take the Steelers to win getting points. The OVER/UNDER is 49, and I’ll take the UNDER. But will the Steelers win straight up? I think they will, but it will be close. I like Pittsburgh to win this game, slaying the proverbial dragon 24-20.
