Art Rooney II feels there is a “pretty good chance” the Steelers will play in Hall of Fame game in 2020

Get yourself ready for a fifth preseason game Steelers Nation!!

Are you ready for some preseason football?!

There is no bigger tease for NFL fans than preseason football. When fans have been waiting all summer for football to start up again, they have to deal with a slew of meaningless games with starters being rested and injuries being the main headline.

With Bill Cowher already announced as an inductee into the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s 2020 Centennial class, and Troy Polamalu, and possibly others, being inducted the same day, it is safe to say the Steelers are primary candidates to be in the Hall of Fame game this season.

Meaning, welcome to 5 preseason games in 2020.

Is it official yet? No, but Steelers Team President Art Rooney II believes there is a pretty good chance the black-and-gold will get the call for the extra preseason game this season. This is what he told Stan Savran on his radio show, transcript via Steelers.com:

“I think there is a pretty good chance we will be playing in the Hall of Fame game this year. It’s not something the coaches and players love to see having an extra preseason game. I think it will be a fun weekend in Canton if things go the way we hope they go the next few days and weeks.

“(There is) nothing firm yet. We have been given indications that we should be probably planning on it. It’s not official yet, but I think it’s more than likely.”

The last time the Steelers played in the Hall of Fame game was when they faced the Minnesota Vikings in 2015. That was the game when placekicker Shaun Suisham had his season end with a torn ACL due to the poor playing surface in Canton, OH.

What are your thoughts on the extra preseason game? While not official, would you be okay with seeing the Steelers an extra week, or is it too much?
