The Pittsburgh Steelers are rolling with only the second 6-0 start in franchise history. The Steelers now head to Baltimore for an AFC North matchup where the winner will hold first place in the division. Of course, this game is the only one that matters this week, but there are some other games which could tell Steelers fans more about this 2020 team.
At the suggestion of one of our faithful BTSC community members, I’m going to include a brief rundown of the previous week’s three games in question to see how they helped shape the narrative of the Steelers 2020 season.
New York Giants (21) at Philadelphia Eagles (22)
Dispite being the only other option fore the week, this ended up being a pretty good game. With the Steelers defeating the Eagles by 9 points and the Giants by 10 points, it makes sense that the Eagles are one point better than the Giants as the score indicated. That’s the numbers of it all, and that’s the best I can do.
Cleveland Browns (37) at Cincinnati Bengals (34)
Once again, I’m not sure if this shows that these two teams are equally good or equally bad. When the Browns can only put up seven points on the Steelers yet can score 37 in Cincinnati, it makes me believe the Bengals have some serious issues on defense. The game was exciting and did come down to the very last second. It must have told the NFL enough about the Bengals in order for them to feel the need to flex their upcoming game with the Steelers to the 4:25 PM time slot.
Dallas Cowboys (3) at Washington Football Team (25)
Yikes. I knew the Dallas Cowboys were going to struggle after losing quarterback Dak Prescott, but I didn’t expect them to get completely dominated in Washington. Since the Steelers have yet to play the Football Team, this doesn’t tell nearly as much about the Cowboys as what this coming week will.
Now that we have closed the page on Week 7 of the NFL season, it’s time to get focused on the next set of games as there is little time in the NFL to dwell on the previous week. For Week 8, here are the three games which could give the most perspective on what the Steelers can expect with some of their future opponents as well as the quality of some of their wins:
Tennessee Titans at Cincinnati Bengals
Sunday 1:00 PM on CBS
In two weeks the Steelers face off against the Bengals in Pittsburgh. Last week, Steelers held on to give the Titans their first loss of the season. Knowing how Pittsburgh dealt with Tennessee will give a pretty good test as to whether or not the Bengals pose a large threat.
New England Patriots at Buffalo Bills
Sunday 1:00 PM on CBS
What’s crazy is how far down the schedule I had to go in order to find another team the Steelers have yet to play in 2020 who has a game in Week 8. After Dallas and Cincinnati, Jacksonville and Washington are both on bye and the Steelers are playing the Ravens this week. So the next team up is Buffalo. This game will at least see if the Bills can start to run away with their division.
Dallas Cowboys at Philadelphia Eagles
Sunday at 8:20 PM on NBC
Although it is a matchup between two teams with losing records, this game should tell a lot about the Steelers upcoming trip to Dallas. If the Cowboys come out against the Eagles much like they did Washington, this game could get very ugly and could set up for the Steelers to be heavy favorites in Week 9.
So there are the three main matchups which may give Steelers fans an indication as to the quality of upcoming and past opponents in 2020. As games begin to pile up in 2020, what to expect from each team is getting much easier to judge.
So which of these games will be the most telling as it pertains to the 2020 Pittsburgh Steelers? Make sure you vote in the poll and give your thoughts in the comments below.
