The Pittsburgh Steelers are rolling with the first 9-0 start in franchise history. The Steelers returned home to Heinz Field for the first time in almost a month and took care of business against the Cincinnati Bengals. Next up is a trip south to take on the Jacksonville Jaguars. Of course, this game is the only one that matters this week, but there are some other games which could tell Steelers fans more about this 2020 team.
At the suggestion of one of our faithful BTSC community members, I’m going to include a brief rundown of the previous week’s three games in question to see how they helped shape the narrative of the Steelers 2020 season.
Indianapolis Colts (34) at Tennessee Titans (17)
I expected the Colts to give the Titans a game in Tennessee, but I didn’t expect them to double up their score. Although they gave Jacksonville their only victory on the season to date in 2020, the Indianapolis Colts are starting to get on a roll and are now the top team in the AFC South.
Jacksonville Jaguars (20) at Green Bay Packers (24)
While I expected other of these games to remain close, this one I did not. Ironically, it was the closest game of the three as Jacksonville gave Green Bay all they could handle. Forcing Aaron Rodgers to turn the ball over which is extremely rare in 2020, Jacksonville’s offense just couldn’t get enough done to get the victory in Wisconsin.
Baltimore Ravens (17) at New England Patriots (23)
What a fantastic game for Steelers’ fans! Watching these two teams play in a monsoon and beat each other up was one thing, but to see the Ravens fall three games behind the Steelers who already owns the tiebreaker for the time being was the icing on the cake. For the moment, Baltimore has to worry about making the playoffs rather than having a chance to win the division.
Now that we have closed the page on Week 10 of the NFL season, it’s time to get focused on the next set of games as there is little time in the NFL to dwell on the previous week. For Week 11, here are the three games which could give the most perspective on what the Steelers can expect with some of their future opponents as well as the quality of some of their wins:
Philadelphia Eagles at Cleveland Browns
Sunday 1:00 PM on FOX
Although the Steelers don’t play Cleveland until the final week of the season, they might be the team the Steelers have to contend with to win the AFC North. Currently tied with the Baltimore Ravens at 6-3, seeing the Browns falter against the Eagles would only make things better for the Steelers regardless of what could happen in Week 17.
Cincinnati Bengals at Washington Football Team
Sunday 1:00 PM on CBS
Both teams are still on the Steelers schedule in 2020, so it makes sense for this to be a game to watch. Add in the fact the Steelers just came off a game against the Bengals, seeing how they stack up against the Washington Football Team will tell something about two of the Steelers next five opponents.
Tennessee Titans at Baltimore Ravens
Sunday at 1:00 PM on CBS
Just like last week, this one is a big one for the Ravens. If they lose another game to fall even farther back in the AFC North, any thought of coming back to win the division would be out the window. Add in the fact they are coming off a hard loss in New England and are facing the team that knocked them out of the 2019 playoffs, this game has blockbuster written all over it.
So there are the three main matchups which may give Steelers fans an indication as to the quality of upcoming and past opponents in 2020. As teams are now in the home stretch, it is becoming more about where teams stand in the playoff picture and how it relates to to Steelers than anything else. All three of the games occur at the same time where the Steelers play, so make sure you set your DVR‘s if possible.
So which of these games will be the most telling as it pertains to the future of the 2020 Pittsburgh Steelers? Make sure you vote in the poll and give your thoughts in the comments below.
