The early news Sunday morning was a good one for the potential game between the Baltimore Ravens and Pittsburgh Steelers at Heinz Field in Week 12. After Adam Schefter took to Twitter to say the Ravens had no new positive cases, he later corrected the statement saying two new players had tested positive for COVID-19.
Shortly thereafter, Schefter tweeted one of those two positive tests were none other than tight end Mark Andrews.
Ravens' Pro Bowl TE Mark Andrews, a Type 1 diabetic, has tested positive for COVID-19, per source. Andrews is out for Tuesday night's game vs. the Steelers and will become at least the 11th Ravens player to go on the Reserve/COVID list.— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) November 29, 2020
Andrews, who is a Type 1 diabetic, certainly has a higher level of concern contracting the virus, and that is clearly the Ravens’ first priority. If we are looking at the Ravens from a football standpoint, the team, if they are cleared to play Tuesday night, has been absolutely decimated with this COVID-19 outbreak.
The other player to test positive, per Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, was pass rusher Matthew Judon.
These name are the latest on a long list of players who have tested positive this week leading up to the game which was originally scheduled for Thanksgiving night. The players who have tested positive so far are:
OL D.J. Fluker
OLB Jaylon Ferguson
G Will Holden
DT Broderick Washington
CB Khalil Dorsey (IR)
CB Tavon Young (IR)
QB Lamar Jackson
FB Patrick Ricard
DE Justin Madubuike
LS Morgan Cox
DE Calais Campbell
RB Mark Ingram
RB J.K. Dobbins
NT Brandon Williams (high risk contact)
OLB Pernell McPhee
OL Matt Skura
OL Patrick Mekari
DE Jihad Ward
QB Trace McSorley
The Ravens now have only two quarterbacks on their active roster. Robert Griffin III and practice squad QB Tyler Huntley. It is worth noting Griffin did beat the Steelers in Week 17 last year at M&T Bank Stadium while the Ravens rested Jackson and many other starters.
The hope is the Ravens’ outbreak will get under control before the team is scheduled to travel to Pittsburgh for the Tuesday night prime time game.
