While both of Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens continue as if they are playing their game at 3:40 PM Wednesday as they hope no more positive COVID-19 tests, the teams were given a 12:30 PM deadline to finalize the rosters for the game. Both teams have open roster positions due to players going on the COVID-19 list. Baltimore is faced with promoting a large quantity of players from their practice squad in order to fill out a complete roster. As for the Steelers, they had one open roster position coming into Wednesday but now have two due to the placement of center Maurkice Pouncey on the Reserve/COVID-19 List.
One item of note is any player elevated from the practice squad to the active roster due to COVID-19 designations will be eligible to return to the practice squad without going through waivers. Also, an elevation due to COVID-19 does not count as one of the two normal elevations for a player during the 2020 season.
Most importantly, the Pittsburgh Steelers added running back Wendell Smallwood and offensive lineman Anthony Coyle as COVID-19 replacements. The addition of Smallwood was expected as the Steelers only had two active running backs and Benny Snell Jr. and Anthony McFarland Jr. As for Coyle, the Steelers needed an eighth offensive lineman to dress in order to have 48 active players.
