The Pittsburgh Steelers are looking to find something to get them back on track to finsih up the 2020 regular season. With only 2 games left, it is same to say the Steelers’ game is the only one that matters this week. But since that would make for a boring article, let’s look at 3 other games this week which might be important going forward.
At the suggestion of one of our faithful BTSC community members, I’m going to include a brief rundown of the previous week’s three games in question to see how they helped shape the narrative of the Steelers 2020 season.
Houston Texans (20) at Indianapolis Colts (27)
It seems too crazy to be true, but in the span of just a few weeks the Houston Texans managed to lose twice to the Indianapolis Colts by fumbling the ball inside the 5 yard line at the very end of the game. I don’t know if this means the Colts are good, lucky, or a combination of both.
Kansas City Chiefs (32) at New Orleans Saints (29)
If people are really paying attention, the Kansas City Chiefs are not dominating teams much like many of the national media would have people believe. This New Orleans Saints team is struggling. They have a storyline very similar to the Pittsburgh Steelers in that their offense can’t get in a rhythm and they are relying heavily on their defense to keep things close.
Cleveland Browns (20) at New York Giants (6)
After putting up over 40 points in a losing effort the previous week, many people expected the Browns to dominate this game against the Giants. Although they won, dominating is not the word which should be used to describe the Browns. Although they show flashes of greatness, they are still the Mistake by the Lake.
Now that we have closed the page on Week 15 of the NFL season, it’s time to get focused on the next set of games as there is little time in the NFL to dwell on the previous week. For Week 16, here are the three games which could give the most perspective on what the Steelers can expect with some of their future opponents as well as their overall layoff picture:
Cleveland Browns at New York Jets
Sunday 1:00 PM on CBS
The Pittsburgh Steelers are still in a battle for the AFC North with the Cleveland Browns and it could come down to Week 17. Therefore, knowing how the Browns do this week as well as seeing how they are playing going into their matchup against the Steelers next week makes this game worth paying attention to although it is going on at the same time as the Steelers.
Tennessee Titans at Green Bay Packers
Sunday 8:20 PM on NBC
This game might come as a surprise, but hear me out. Right now the Steelers are trying to stay ahead of the Titans for playoff positioning. Therefore, what happens with the Titans playing is important. Also, if the Steelers find themselves as a wildcard team, the Titans could be who they are matched up with in the first round of the playoffs. So either way, paying attention to Tennessee is worthwhile at this moment.
Buffalo Bills at New England Patriots
Monday at 8:15 PM on ESPN
This is another one very similar to the Tennessee Titans. As much as it would be interesting to see if the Steelers can regain the number two seed in the AFC, if they are not a division champions they could very well be facing the Bills early in the playoffs. So noting how Buffalo finishes out their season for either playoff positioning or a possible postseason matchup means Steelers fan should keep and eye on the Bills.
So there are the three main matchups which may give Steelers fans an indication as to the quality of upcoming opponents in 2020 including the playoffs. As teams enter the last games of the season, it is time to pay attention to possible matchups in the postseason.
So which of these games will be the most telling as it pertains to upcoming games of the 2020 Pittsburgh Steelers? Make sure you vote in the poll and give your thoughts in the comments below.
