The Pittsburgh Steelers had four player acquisitions last week, and it has their fan base in a frenzy as they anticipate the upcoming 2020 season. The team acquired fullback Derek Watt, tight end Eric Ebron and guard Stefen Wisinewski via free agency. Shortly following the addition of Ebron it was announced the team traded with the Baltimore Ravens, only the second time this has happened since 1998, to acquire defensive lineman Chris Wormley.
Fans were able to take a breath over the weekend, and most would agree the team is essentially done making moves ahead of the 2020 NFL Draft. But that might not be the case.
The Steelers had just over $11 million in cap space before signing Ebron and taking on Wormley’s contract, but it doesn’t mean they won’t be able to create more space to potentially make another move, or two.
All it would take is restructuring David DeCastro’s and/or Stephon Tuitt’s contract to give them the space necessary to sign players to a new contract. To be honest, the longer these players sit on the open market, the lower their cost is for whichever team wants to sign them.
Thanks to ProFootballTalk, they have the Top 25 remaining free agents on the market. You can see the list below, but not every player would be a good, or welcome, fit with the black-and-gold. Who would you like to see the Steelers sign? Maybe a player like safety Vonn Bell, to help add some quality depth at the safety position behind Minkah Fitzpatrick and Terrell Edmunds?
Let us know in the comment section below, and be sure to stay tuned to BTSC for the latest news and notes surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers as they prepare for the 2020 NFL Draft at the end of April.
