Mike Tomlin Tuesday: It feels really good to handle our business

With no more press conferences from Steelers’ head coach Mike Tomlin in the foreseeable future, we’ll look back at some of interesting quotes from the 2019 season

Once again, it doesn’t seem like a Tuesday unless we are graced with words from Steelers’ head coach Mike Tomlin from his weekly press conference. Since we aren’t expected to hear from coach Tomlin until the NFL draft in April, let’s take a look at some of the most interesting quotes Tomlin has given us this past season.

We’ve experienced several “Throwback Tomlin Tuesday” quotes so far this off-season. So far we have re-lived the following:

A nose guard is like Blockbuster video
We weren’t ready for prime time tonight
So that’s how you lay an egg
We’ve got to make plays
I’m not a doctor
We’re excited infusing him into the fold
You have to work in concert as a football team
The competitor in all of us is a little bit pissed off

As we continue trough the 2019 season, let’s go back to the post game press conference after the Steelers Week 4 win on Monday Night Football against the Cincinnati Bengals. During his opening statement, coach Tomlin talked about being able to get the team’s first victory of the 2019 season.

“It feels really good to handle our business, and we did so tonight,” Tomlin stated to open the press conference. “It was really just an outstanding effort in all three phases. It needs to be a springboard for us as we move forward. It was significant tonight on a lot of fronts, obviously. Particularly because it’s AFC North football.”

After falling into a 0-3 hole to start the season and losing the teams franchise quarterback for the year, the Steelers needed a win as they began divisional play for the season. Luckily, getting the Bengals at home on Monday Night Football was just the right recipe not only for a win, but a decisive victory to boot. Unfortunately, the Steelers then had to turn around and host the Baltimore Ravens the following week after losing a day of preparation.

“But we don’t have a lot of time to pat ourselves on the back,” Tomlin added. “We’ve got another AFC North group coming in here in a short period of time.”

Not only do the Steelers finally get their first victory of 2019, it was also the first win as a starter for quarterback Mason Rudolph. Coach Tomlin made sure he particularly addressed his young quarterback.

“I really appreciate the efforts of everyone. I can’t say enough about Mason. We gave him a game ball in there for his first start and win.”

With the Steelers finally finishing a game in the right way, it was important to take everything they could out of the situation and run with it.

“We need to just learn from this,” Tomlin continued. “Learn from positive experiences like we have from some of the negative ones and keep getting better. I think that’s just the nature of this thing.”

The Steelers almost took their momentum from their first victory in order to knock out the Baltimore Ravens who ultimately finished the regular season 14-2. But almost doesn’t count in the NFL as the Steelers ultimately fell to the Ravens in overtime.
