Full steam ahead to part 20 of our 90-part series— assuming the roster does not change before we are complete— which will break down each player of the Steelers current 90-man roster in alphabetical order. This series will encompass many aspects of each players game and their current role with the team. At the end, I’ll give some projected stats as well as their chances to make the 53-man roster.
Let’s take a look at camp offensive tackle:
Anthony Coyle
Position: T
Height: 6’ 4”
Weight: 298 lbs
College: Fordham
Draft: UDFA in 2018 (Texans)
2019 stats (XFL)
5 GP
Contract remaining
Expires in 2020
$610,000 salary cap number (0.3% of total cap)
$0 dead money
$610,000 cap savings if cut
Likelihood of making the roster
Nil. I hate to say a player doesn't have any chance of making the team, however, given the Steelers current offensive line depth chart, it’s nearly impossible to slot Coyle in anywhere. At best he kills it in camp and earns a spot on the practice squad.
2020 projection
Coyle has played in the NFL since 2018, and hasn't gotten past camp or the practice squad either season. I expect the trend to continue for the Rhode Island journeyman.
Projected stats:
N/A
Summary
The Steelers have a very good mix of veteran and young lineman. Unfortunately for Anthony Coyle, that mix of talent will only further limit his chance at cracking the roster.
I’m still firmly in the camp that one of the Steelers XFL signees will make a surprise impact on this team. I just don't think it will be along the O-Line.
