Chugging along with part 58 of our 90-part series — assuming the roster does not change before we are complete — which will break down each player of the Steelers current 90-man roster in alphabetical order. This series will encompass many aspects of each players game and their current role with the team. At the end, I’ll give some projected stats as well as their chances to make the 53-man roster.

Let’s take a look at second year defensive tackle:

Henry Mondeaux

Position: DT
Height: 6’ 5”
Weight: 288 lbs
College: Oregon
Draft: UDFA in 2018 (Saints)

2019 stats

N/A - Member of the practice squad

Contract remaining

Expires in 2021
$610,000 salary cap number (0.30% of total cap)
$0 Dead money
$610,000 Savings if cut

Likelihood of making the roster

50/50. Henry Mondeaux has a real chance of making this team, the only thing standing in his way is the biggest man on the team, Daniel McCullers. Mondeaux will have to prove that both McCullers and having a tradition nose tackle on the roster is no longer necessary. McCullers is attempting to make it through his 7th training camp, and no one has taken his spot yet.

2020 projection

I really want to say Mondeaux will make this team, however the combination of an assumed shortened training camp, and Dan McCullers longevity makes me believe the deck is not stacked in Mondeaux’s favor. He will be cut and I'm sure quickly scooped up by a defensive line needy team. If not he is one of the top candidates to land back on the Steelers practice squad.

Projected stats:

N/A — Cut

Summary

Henry Mondeaux was one of my favorite players of 2019 training camp, he was able to make plays when called upon and I believe had we had a regular offseason would make this team. Many of the young guys on this roster won't be given the same opportunities due to Covid-19, and some training camp darlings won't be able to prove themselves worthy for another season. I hope Mondeaux finds a job in the NFL but I feel like his chances are rapidly shrinking.
