I can’t speak for everyone reading this article, but I have always cared about the announcers of Steelers games. I can still remember yelling at Phil Simms’ idiotic comments, or shaking my head at Solomon Wilcots butchering Steelers players’ names.
Some don’t care about who is calling the game, but I am certainly not among that crowd. Hence how interested I was when I saw a report of who might be calling the Steelers vs. Giants game on Monday Night Football in Week 1 at MetLife Stadium.
Reminder, the first week of the season is when ESPN hosts a Monday night double header, and the Steelers have the early game of the back-to-back Week 1 games.
ESPN announced their new Monday Night Football crew of Steve Levy, Louis Riddick and Brian Griese, but also reportedly decided to have that trio call the later game between the Titans and Broncos. The team who will call the Steelers’ game will be ESPN’s top college football duo Kirk Herbstreit and Chris Fowler.
Before fans get too excited, or angry, at the thought of Fowler and Herbstreit calling an NFL game, especially a Steelers game, there is a lot which can change. If college football is played on time, not delayed or canceled, it would not free up Fowler and Herbstreit to cover the game. However, if NCAA football is either delayed or canceled, you could expect to see Herbstreit and Fowler talking about the matchup featuring Ben Roethlisberger and Daniel Jones.

If this duo ends up being the two who are calling the game, would you like it? Or would you despise it? Personally, I would love to hear “Herbie” talking about the Steelers. I have long enjoyed Fowler and Herbstreit covering college games, and think it would be pretty awesome to have them do a Steelers game.
