With the Pittsburgh Steelers kicking off their season on Monday, fans will have the opportunity to watch any NFL team without missing their beloved black and gold. As Steelers Nation looks to see what else is going on around the NFL, there are a few matchups between two teams the Steelers will face later in the season.
For Week 1, here are the three games which could give the most perspective on what the Steelers can expect with some of their future opponents:
Thursday at 8:20 PM on NBC
Although the Steelers only play one of these two teams in 2020, having a team they play in two weeks facing off against last year’s Super Bowl champion could tell them a lot about this future opponent. The Texans will be coming to Heinz Field in Week 3, so looking ahead to the matchup will be useful, especially since this game is kicking off the NFL season and easily viewable for everyone. Even though the Steelers don’t play the Chiefs in the regular season, it would be difficult to argue against them being the favorite to represent the AFC in the Super Bowl. Seeing how the Texans fare in Kansas City and then comparing the Steelers result in a couple weeks could possibly help gauge where they lie in regards to last year’s Super Bowl champion.
Sunday 1:00 PM on CBS
It’s an AFC North match up in Week 1, and it’s hard to argue with these are the two best remaining teams in the division. Of course, the Cincinnati Bengals will try to make some noise in 2020, but until they do it’s the Browns and the Ravens who are the biggest divisional rivals for the Steelers. Getting an idea of how strong both look to start the season will tell a lot with how the Steelers will fare in the AFC North.
Monday at 10:20 PM on ESPN
As soon as the Steelers game against the New York Giants is complete Monday night, don’t be too quick to turn off the television. Two of the next three of the Steelers opponents will be facing off in the second game of the doubleheader on ESPN. In Week 2 the Broncos will be visiting Heinz Field while the Steelers will travel to Tennessee in Week 4. Getting an idea how both of these teams come out to begin the 2020 season should help Steelers fans gauge what to expect through the first quarter of the season.
So there are the three main matchups which can give Steelers fans an indication as to the quality of upcoming opponents in 2020. With no preseason games this year, it will be the first chance the Steelers have to view tape on their opponent.
