Two games into the season and Bud Dupree might be the best player on the Steelers defense

The Steelers outside linebacker has come a long way from the early years of his career

Alvin ‘Bud’ Dupree has been been a hard hitting game wrecker early on in this 2020 season. It has been a continuation of a solid 2019 campaign which saw Dupree finally put all of his physical tools together. Now here in 2020 Bud Dupree is putting his name in the conversation of being one of, if not the best, player on the team.

In Week 1, Dupree made the play of the game when he pressured Daniel Jones, on the last snap of a 19-play drive, forcing a bad throw to nobody which landed in the arms of the awaiting Cam Heyward. Then again in Week 2, Dupree would make the game changing play when he delivered a bone shattering hit to Broncos quarterback Drew Lock. Which saw the football get recovered by the defense, but also knock the young pivot out of the game.

But it isn't just one play here and there. Dupree has made an impact throughout the duration of games, and hasn't disappeared, as of yet.

To think Bud Dupree has come this far following four fairly disappointing seasons to start his career is a testament to the patients of the Steelers coaching staff, and the hard work Dupree put in to get himself in this situation.

The strange thing is, the stats don't back up Dupree’s level of play. In two games Dupree has only produced one sack, 2 tackles for loss, and four quarterback hits, but when you watch the games Dupree is seemingly playing the entirety of games in the opposition’s backfield. Even Pro Football Focus is unfathomably low on Dupree, rating him the NFL 74th best edge defender with a 56.7 grade. This is a lower grade than Steelers rookie, Alex Highsmith (64.0).

But fans of this team watch the impact Dupree brings on a weekly basis. Dupree rounds out one of the most dominant front fours in the entire NFL, and he’s no slouch in that role either.

But what do you think? Where does Bud Dupree rank amongst players on this team? Let us know down in the comments below.
