The Pittsburgh Steelers are rolling along with their preparation for their Week 3 matchup with the Houston Texans on Sunday. When it comes to having all hands on deck, the Steelers made a step in the right direction on Thursday, but are still missing a key contributor. In the second injury report of the week courtesy of the Steelers PR department, JuJu Smith-Schuster was the only Steelers player not to return to practice on Thursday.
It was unexpected to see Smith-Schuster on the injury report not participating on Thursday with his knee injury. The previous week, Smith-Schuster was able to return to action after missing Wednesday’s practice. While there is a reason for concern, tomorrow’s injury report where the status of Smith-Schuster is revealed will help tell the story when it comes to his availability for Sunday.
There were four players on the Steelers who were given veteran’s days off from practice on Wednesday as there were not any injuries reported. Ben Roethlisberger, Maurkice Pouncey, Cameron Heyward, and Stephon Tuitt all returned to practice on Thursday as expected.
Wide receiver Diontae Johnson followed a similar path as last week as he sat out the first day of practice with a toe injury only to return in full capacity on Thursday. Tyson Alualu took a very similar route this week as he also got back into the action on Thursday after sitting out with a knee inury.
Another positive sign for the Steelers is David DeCastro was able to work at full capacity for the second straight day on Thursday. Unless he suffers a setback, DeCastro looks to be available for the first time in the 2020 season for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
