The Pittsburgh Steelers have released their inactives for their Week 3 game against the Houston Texans. With no players ruled out due to injury or even with a status at all, the list is made up of 5 healthy scratches.
The inactives for the #Steelers in their game today vs. the Texans: QB Dobbs, ILB Gilbert, OL Derwin Gray, DL Carlos Davis, TE Gentry.— Bob Labriola (@BobLabriola) September 27, 2020
All-Pro guard David DeCastro is making his 2020 debut as he returns to the lineup. Since he is not using up one inactive spot this week, it falls to the bottom man on the depth chart along the offensive line. For Week 3, that player Derwin Gray is while Jerald Hawkins is active. Both players were added to the Steelers roster last week and were active on game day. For now, it appears Hawkins gets the nod over Gray.
Once again, the three players who are becoming regulars on list are Josh Dobbs, Carlos Davis, and Zach Gentry. For obvious reasons, Dobbs should be inactive each week as his job for Week 3 was to help prepare the Steelers defense for Texans’ quarterback Deshaun Watson. For Davis, it looks as if he would need one of the five active defensive linemen to have an injury for him to have a helmet. In the case of Zach Gentry, it seems the Steelers are content with only two tight ends for the time being.
The other player on the list could be considered a regular as Ulysees Gilbert III is inactive again this week. With rookie running back Anthony McFarland Jr. getting the helmet in Week 2 which was mistakenly not issued at all for the Steelers first contest, many thought Gilbert could get a chance this week as McFarland did not see a single snap against the Broncos. Perhaps one week later McFarland will get an opportunity to get onto the field and show why the Steelers selected him in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL draft.
As for the Texans’ inactives, they can be seen below courtesy of Steelers.com. The Texans have 6 players on the list as they activated running back C.J. Prosise yesterday from the practice squad as well as reporting linebacker Peter Kalambayi was downgraded to OUT and did not travel to Pittsburgh. The most notable player on the list for the Texans is running back Duke Johnson who will miss the game due to an ankle injury.
