Pittsburgh Steelers fullback and special teams ace, Derek Watt has been sidelined with a hamstring injury which is believed to hold him off the game day lineup for a number of weeks. If the Steelers decide to place Watt on the three week injured reserve the organization will have another roster spot andante some big shoes to fill.
#Steelers FB Derek Watt suffered a Grade 2 hamstring pull, source said, which means he’ll miss a couple games. The Ultimate Tag host and special teamer left the win over the #Texans early.

When it comes to free agents that can contribute on special teams, and play on offense as a fullback there are a number of options. But, when you factor in players that already know the Steelers system one name automatically jumps to the top of the list; Former Pittsburgh Steelers fullback and special teamer, Roosevelt Nix.
The Steelers have already brought back a number of familiar faces in 2020. Guys like Sean Davis, Josh Dobbs, and Jerald Hawkins come to mind. Nix really feels like the obvious name if Watts injury is significant enough that he must be placed on the short term injured reserve.
Nix was a member of the Steelers organization from 2015-2019 and was named to the Pro Bowl in 2017. In 2019, Nix was named the Steelers special teams captain but only appeared in three games. His injury plagued season led to his eventual release back in March. Nix would sign with the Indianapolis Colts but was released after training camp.
In 60 career games Nix put up four rushing attempts, four rushing yards, 12 receptions, 69 receiving yards, two total touchdowns, and 34 tackles.
This fairly cryptic tweet sent from Nix moments after the Derek Watt news was announced, may suggest something is already in the works. But we will have to wait and see.
