The Pittsburgh Steelers continued with their flurry of offseason activity on Thursday as they signed 13 players to Reserve/Future contracts. The signed players, according to Steelers.com, are as follows:
Tight end Kevin Rader,
Wide receiver Anthony Johnson
Wide receiver Cody White
Offensive tackle Anthony Coyle
Offensive tackle Brandon Walton
Safety John Battle
Linebacker Tegray Scales
Defensive tackle Demarcus Christmas
Defensive end Calvin Taylor
Punter Corliss Waitman
Long snapper Christian Kuntz
Offensive tackle John Leglue
Cornerback Trevor Williams
The two players on the list who were not on the Steelers practice squad to finish the season were long snapper Christian Kuntz and linebacker Tegray Scales. Kuntz was released from the practice squad the week of the Steelers Wild Card matchup against the Cleveland Browns while Scales was on the active roster up until the return of Robert Spillane and Matt Feiler from the Reserve/Injured List last Saturday.
Other notable players from the list are tight end Kevin Rader and offensive tackle Anthony Coyle who both spent time active on game day for the Steelers at various points of the 2020 season. Coyle never saw the field for the Steelers on the occasions he was elevated from the practice squad. Rader was elevated for the Steelers playoff matchup where he played 20 special teams snaps after being used by the Steelers in Week 17 when they were without tight end Eric Ebron.
There are five players who finished the season on the Steelers practice squad who are not included in this list for signing Reserve/Future contracts. Those players include wide receiver Deon Cain, quarterback Devlin Hodges, tight end Charles Jones, running back Wendell Smallwood, and kicker Matthew Wright. Additionally, offensive tackle Jarron Jones, who finished the 2020 season on the Steelers Practice Squad/Injured List, was not included with the other signed contracts.
The Steelers will continue to shape their offseason roster in the given weeks. Stay tuned to Behind The Steel Curtain for continued coverage of the process of shaping the Steelers 2021 roster and coaching staff.
