You can add Chargers quarterback coach Pep Hamilton to the list of candidates for the Pittsburgh Steelers vacant offensive coordinator job. The team placed an interview request with the Los Angeles Chargers quarterback coach on Thursday, this according to Josina Anderson.
I'm told #Chargers QB coach Pep Hamilton has been informed the #Steelers are putting in a request to interview him for the OC job, per source.

While it’s still not known whether or not the request will be accepted, it appears fair to say the position is still up for grabs.
NFL insiders had speculated earlier in the week that current Steelers quarterback coach Matt Canada was going to be named the Steelers replacement for Randy Fichtner. However, after the fulfillment of the Rooney Rule, when the team spoke with former Browns head coach Hue Jackson, the interview request of Hamilton suggests this spot is still completely open.
Pep Hamilton is one of the hottest names for teams looking for an offensive coordinator. Before his time in Los Angeles, Hamilton was the General Manager and head coach of the XFL’s D.C. Defenders. Prior to that, he spent time as the assistant head coach for both the Cleveland Browns and the University of Michigan. Before that he was Andrew Luck’s offensive coordinator with the Indianapolis Colts.
A genius when it comes to developing quarterbacks, Hamilton has coached up the likes of, Justin Herbert, Andrew Luck, Alex Smith, Rex Grossman, Kyle Orton, and Chad Pennington. Hiring a guy like Hamilton would instantly spark debate on whether the Steelers might be looking for its next quarterback in the upcoming NFL Draft. His track record speaks for itself, and his success with quarterbacks should make anyone more comfortable with the selection of a quarterback.
Pep Hamilton is very deserving of a play-calling OC position. His work with Justin Herbert this season was impressive and essential. And he has experience. https://t.co/DTguo9k3nH
