What once was the beginning of the official NFL Draft season, now looks to be the end. There is one last viewing chance to see some of this year’s prospects, and that is the actual game itself. As far as the remaining down time, Ryland B. and steelerfan11 are doing an excellent job with this year’s version of the BTSC Big Board. I still plan on doing some individual breakdowns, although they will most likely be my favorite prospects.
Once again, I encourage others to dig back into some game film and do some individual breakdowns and place them in the Fan Post section. There are always the mock drafts to help us through the down time!
Throughout the week I have given some names to keep an eye on, whether it be first round prospects or guys flying under the radar. Today I will be watching a potential draft target of the Steelers, or in my eyes he should be. Mac Jones, QB from Alabama, has hit the ground running, so to speak, at the Senior Bowl practice week, picking where he left off. The amazing thing is you have to take into account he is learning on the fly, adjusting to a different system or call signs, throwing to a very diverse but new group of receivers and trusting a different group of guys protecting his every move.
What he has done is show leadership by trying to make himself, as well as the others around him, better by building a rapport with the guys he is playing with. Throw in the fact he had an injury to his foot/ankle, and is still playing in this game when he doesn’t need to, shows a new level of toughness.
You know why? Because he is a competitor!
Throw in the ball placement, the reads through his progressions and his understanding of what the defense is giving and you wonder why this guy isn’t being talked about as a trade option for the Steelers. I’ll be surprised if he falls to pick No. 24, but if he does the Steelers need to sprint to the podium.
On a side note, the Division 3 phenom from Wisconsin Whitewater Quinn Meinerz will also be playing today with a broken hand. Tell me that doesn’t scream Steeler. Here’s a decent article on Meinerz:
