The Pittsburgh Steelers have released their inactives for their Week 5 matchup against the Denver Broncos. With three players already ruled out due to injury (Rashaad Coward was released on Saturday and lo longer counts), there was a player elevated from the practice squad on Saturday in order to help cover the loss. With six players needed to fill out the list this week, there are three healthy scratches. The Steelers full inactive list comes courtesy of Joe Rutter.

Just like the last two weeks, the Steelers don’t have any players carrying an injury status who were in doubt for Sunday’s game. The difference this week is there was no downgrade of a player, only one of the players ruled out being released. Since the Steelers had already elevated Cody White twice in 2021, they could not elevate him from the practice squad again and signed him to the 53-man roster. In order to help out more in the secondary, safety Karl Joseph was the player called up from the practice squad for Sunday.

The biggest loss among the three players ruled out for the game is cornerback Cam Sutton. Both a starting outside corner as well as sliding into a different role in some of the Steelers sub packages, it is expected it will take multiple players who see extra playing time from the loss of Sutton.

The other two players missing the game due to injury are defensive tackle Carlos Davis and wide receiver James Washington. Davis missed the last three games with a knee injury while Washington popped up on the injury list on Thursday with a groin injury. The absence of Washington is what led to the signing of Cody White.

As for the players who were healthy scratches, Dewayne Haskins is inactive for the fifth-straight week. For the other two spots on the inactive list, the Steelers have cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon inactive for the third-straight game and four of the five games this season. After getting a helmet in Week 2 due to the injury to Joe Haden, Witherspoon is back on the inactive list again as the Steelers elevated Karl Joseph to help in the secondary. For the second-straight week, Buddy Johnson finishes off the inactives list as he will be on the sidelines.
