Knee-jerk Reactions are immediate responses to a situation without taking the time to analyze the situation. That’s something as sports fans that we typically do. Especially if you are a full blood Yinzer, or even just a part Yinzer, who am I fooling it’s more like if you are a Steeler fan in general. As is the custom, I compile my knee-jerk thoughts and publish them immediately after each Steelers game (my son Kyle might have a few things to say as well). It’s my version of running my mouth first and apologizing later. So with that being said, I’m going to employ that philosophy here during Week 6 of the 2021 NFL Season. Let’s get this going, HERE......WE......GO!!!
1st Quarter
- The game hasn't even kicked off yet and I'm already ticked off at Collinsworth. He said the Steelers couldn't lose a third straight home game. I guess he didn't realize that they won at home last week. What a jaggo.
- Seahawks win the coin flip, so the Steelers to receive the ball.
- Good return there by Ray-Ray McCloud. Oh wait, is there a flag on the play I think Joe Haden was offsides.
- Ugly looking opening drive. A couple short runs by Najee, followed by a false start and then they come up short on third and long.
- The defense holds Seattle to three and out. Seeing a lot of pressure and I liked it as they got a hit in on Geno Smith by Highsmith.
- I still feel like Ben's putting too much air under his deep throws.
- After one first down the Steelers can only gain about 6 yards and will punt.
- Nice tackle by Benny Snell, but looks like he could have injured his arm on that play.
- Watt hits Smith's arm as he goes to throw. Boy that guy is fast.
- The Steelers make them check it down on third down and then four guys managed to miss the running back and let him gain 20 yards. Are you kidding me?
- After all those missed tackles, the defense is now letting them move the ball right down the field. Should have been off the field.
- Norwood with a nice pass break up on third down.
- Muuuuuuttttthhhhh.
- The Steelers throw it on first and 10, throw it on second and one, had a penalty, then decide to run on second and 11. That didn't make a lot of sense to me.
- Third and six and Ben does another lob it up deep kind of throw that wasn't anywhere close.
- End of the first quarter, Steelers 0, Seahawks 0.
2nd Quarter
- Watt! Batting down the 3rd down pass!
- Ebron making the catch and not a drop on third down.
- R-O-C-K to the N-A-J!!! Najee with the touchdown catch. Steelers 7, Seahawks 0.
- Cam Heyward sack!
- Nothing doing for the Seattle offense, time to punt.
- Steelers are methodically moving the ball down the field.
- Najee just made a couple of Seahawks look like complete fools trying to tackle him.
- On third and three the Seahawks jump off sides. Ben takes a shot in the end zone and Diontae just missed coming up with it, but it's a first down.
- A couple of tough runs by Najee takes it down to the 2-minute warning.
- Ebron with a touchdown RUN! I think that play surprised everybody. I know it's surprised me. Steelers 14, Seahawks 0.
- Wormley with the pass knockdown.
- Highsmith getting in on Smith for the sack!
- Steelers get the ball back, and on third and seven Diontae gives up yards to get out of bounds when there's no point to get out of bounds because now it's fourth down.
- At the half the score is Steelers 14, Seattle 0.
3rd Quarter
- The Steelers are getting gashed by the run to start the second half.
- The defense looks nothing like it did in the first half. The Seahawks are almost to the red zone in just a few plays.
- Seattle's not disguising much in their runs either. Basically they are running at T.J. Watt.
- Not real sure that I understand the penalty they called on T.J. because he's trying to punch the ball out.
- The defense ends up letting Seattle come right down the field to score to start the second half. Steelers 14, Seattle 7.
- Ben and Chase were not on the same page for that throw.
- Back to back nice throws from Ben to Diontae Johnson.
- Boswell ends up having to come in to kick a field goal. Steeler 17, Seattle 7.
- The defense is definitely not playing very well right now. They have not been tackling well; they have not been covering well.
- Touchdown Seattle. The defense better figure this out. Steelers 17, Seahawks 14.
- The run plays out a shotgun are getting Najee hit behind the line of scrimmage all the time.
- The offense now goes three and out. I expect that the defense will let Seattle come right down score touchdown and take the lead.
- Not a very good punt there by Big Press.
- Steelers give up a 13-yard run on first down. Again the Seahawks running towards the right side of their line.
- On 3rd and 7th the Steelers give up a 25-yard run.
- End of the third. Steeler 17, Seahawks 14, but I don't expect it to be like this for long.
4th Quarter
- Highsmith gets in for another sack on 3rd down.
- Seattle hits a field goal. Steelers 17, Seahawks 17.
- Back-to-back runs for first down by Najee and then by Kalen Ballage.
- Ben loses that football and it initially it is called an incomplete pass, but I have a feeling that if when this challenge happens that the Steelers are going to lose this football.
- And as I thought, it was a fumble. The Steelers had this game totally in control in the first half, and now are on the verge of losing it in the second half.
- The Steelers got lucky with a holding call on that first downplay for Seattle that went for 16 yards.
- The defense continues to get absolutely gashed by the running game.
- Tre Norwood with the tackle for the loss on third down. Norwood has had an excellent game tonight.
- The fumble does not hunt the Steelers as the Seahawks have to punt. Talk about dodging the bullet.
- Not looking good as Dan Moore Jr is down hurt. Luckily he gets up and walks off the field on his own power. Joe Haeg into the game.
- Big 3rd down and 9 here for the Steelers. And Roethlisberger overthrows Claypool. The offense was clicking good in the first half but has been out of sync in the second.
- I'm just not having a great feeling about this game. The Seahawks have had all the momentum in the second half.
- The defense shows up on that series and holds Seattle to three and out. Was Renegade played before that series?
- Muth with his 6th catch of the game.
- Never like seeing the medical staffs having to come out and work on getting someone off the field with a possible neck injury. Hope it is not too serious for that young man.
- Najee with another 10-yard run on first down.
- 2 minute warning. Pittsburgh driving trying to win this ball game.
- Hated seeing that penalty on Claypool.
- Najee almost was able to complete that long third down.
- Boswell on to try 52 yard field goal. GOOD! Steelers 20, Seahawks 17.
- Seattle picks up a first down. Is anybody nervous? I'm nervous.
- Seattle has it down to the Pittsburgh 35. 18 seconds to play. Nothing like a good heart attack game late on a Sunday night.
- I have no idea why they stopped to look at the previous play. That was definitely a catch and then the ball was punched out. Now this is just made a mess of everything.
- See I don't now get the chance to tie it up and they do. Steelers 20 Seahawks 20, we are looking at overtime.
- Seattle will get the ball to start the overtime.
- Big throw on second and long by Geno Smith gets Seattle near midfield.
- Cameron Hayward with the TFL.
- Huge third downplay for the Steelers right here. Someone needs to make a play.
- Watt with the sack!!! Talk about making a play when it was needed.
- Big third down and four here for the Ray-Ray McCloud gets stopped short and Steelers go three and out.
- Now it's on the defense to do it again. I don't like that the offense puts them in this position.
- Watt with the strip of Geno Smith! Bush recovers! Yes, Yes, Yes!
- Boswell wins it!!!!
- Steelers 23, Seachickens 20.
There you have it, my knee jerks. What were your thoughts? Be sure to get your opinions heard in the comment section below. Now time for me to process it, do some quick analyzing for the Scho Bro Show, and then put it behind me as the Steelers move on to Week 7 against ............NOBODY. Time for the Steelers to get some rest and get healthy during their bye week, at least it looks like they will get a real bye week this year. I’ll be back the next week. CAN’T WAIT!!!!!
